William Heyen papers relating to William B. Ewert, 1978-2003.

Collection consists of correspondence, writings, and printed ephemera relating to Heyen's effort to gather the finest editions published by Ewert between 1978 and 2001. The collection features galley proofs for Charles Simic's Small Feasts (1998) and John Updike's story "The Woman Who Got Away" (1998), which includes a proof for an egraving by Barry Moser, and a suite of three proofs and a broadside, signed, for Updike's poem "Rainbow." The correspondence consists of letters to William and Hannelore Heyen from Ewert, Ewert's wife Mary, and Ewert's mother, Helen M. Ferry. The printed ephemera consists of promotional material relating to publications by Ewert, such as announcements, and ephemera relating to Ewert's death and memorial service, including a keepsake, printed by John Kristensen, with an engraving by Moser.

William B. Ewert (b. 1943) graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1965. Since 1970, he has been science consultant at the New Hampshire State Department of Education and was chair of the Friends of the UNH Library from 1975 until 1990. In 1984, he received the Granite State Award, given by the University for service to the state. Ewert's first publication was "Witness" in December 1978. From the description of William B. William Heyen is an American poet and editor. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1940, and educated at the State University of New York at Brockton and Ohio University.
